how does this calculator actually work?

data was pulled from 8a.nu and cleaned. although 8a does not have data on the number of sessions or attempts until a send, Ondra often wrote a comment for each of his climbs. within this comment, he frequently mentioned the duration of time and/or number of sessions it took him to send. when this is the case, the phrase was isolated from the comment, cleaned, and saved into the finalized csv file. the climbs without comments have O grades as determined by the average O grade for climbs of that font grade. further, since Ondra has only logged climbs graded at least 8a and 8a+ for sport climbing and bouldering, respectively, all lower grades were set to a fixed O grade, subjectively determined. because of the lack of data and reliance on text manipulation of semi-inconsistent wording, there are likely to be inaccuracies. if you happen across one, please reach out so i can change it!
